Private Health Insurance funds that support telehealth
The following private health insurers currently support telehealth via Medipass:
Medibank, Bupa, nib, GMHBA, GU Health, St Lukes Health, health.com.au, Nurses & Midwives Health, AAMI, APIA, Suncorp and Qantas Assure.
As telehealth claiming is relatively new, the funds that support this capability will continue to evolve, so check back regularly for updates.
How to raise a telehealth claim
Raising a telehealth claim is the same as any other claim you raise in Medipass via HICAPS, and applicable item codes can be found on the HICAPS website.
You will note that telehealth codes, and other codes that require your business to be on HICAPS version 2, include the prefix "v2 only". If your business is not on HICAPS version 2, then they will be declined (see below).
Check if you are enabled for telehealth
If you already use Medipass to raise HICAPS claims, then most likely, you are already enabled for telehealth. You can confirm this by signing into your Medipass portal and navigating to Get Paid, then clicking the 'Settings' cog that appears alongside the Allied Private Health Insurance button.
Scroll to the bottom of this page and you will see which version of HICAPS you are on. If you are on version 2, then new the telehealth codes are enabled for your business.
If you are on version 1, you will need to upgrade (see below).
All new businesses who sign up to Medipass are automatically be enabled for HICAPS version 2.
