Our Medicare Online integration for DVA claiming supports both out-patient and in-patient services. For other in-patient claiming, check out our ECLIPSE integration.

How to submit hospital claims

Submitting a Medicare Online / DVA claim for in-patient services, follows the same steps for raising an invoice for out-patient Medicare Online or DVA services, however, there are some important differences:

  • After entering the location and provider details, select the 'show options' button.

  • For the 'treatment location', select "hospital" (applicable for DVA claims only).

  • Under 'in hospital services', select "yes".

  • Include the hospital's 'Facility ID'.

The Facility ID is also known as a 'Commonwealth Hospital Facility Provider Number' and resembles your provider number but is specific to a hospital rather than a provider. If you do not know the Facility ID, the hospital will be able to provide it to you.

Error - claim rejected for missing Facility ID

This error can occur when an in hospital Medicare or DVA claim is submitted without a valid Facility ID. If you receive this error, you'll need to re-submit the claim with additional information (see above).

We advise providing this information for cases where hospital referral overrides are used, treatment location is set to Hospital any where a service is provided in a hospital. These fields may appear as "optional" when submitting a claim through Tyro Health Online. However, if you've received this error and had your claim rejected for a missing Facility ID, Medicare or DVA may require this information to process your claim.
